How do I remove static from audio?

Can it remove white noise?

Yes. White noise, fan noise and AC hum are steady, broadband sounds, which is exactly what the AI removes most reliably.

Does it fix crackles and pops?

It reduces light crackle along with hiss. Loud clicks and pops, like from a damaged vinyl or a bad cable, are short bursts and may still be audible.

What causes static and hiss

Hiss is broadband noise: cheap mic preamps turned up too high, fans and air conditioning, or the noise floor of an old tape. It sounds like a constant "sss" behind the voice and gets much worse when you boost quiet recordings.

Because hiss covers every frequency, an EQ can't remove it without dulling the voice. The AI separates the voice from the noise instead, so it removes the hiss between and under the words.
